Elephant & Castle Regeneration Projects, London

The regeneration of Elephant & Castle represents one of the most significant urban renewal programmes in south London, transforming a major transport interchange and post-war commercial centre into a new mixed-use district of housing, retail, public space and education.

GMJ worked on numerous redevelopment schemes in the area including the Elephant Park (Heygate redevelopment), E&C Shopping Centre, UNCLE Elephant and Castle and Strata.

We provided :

  • Establishing development parameters for the London Borough of Southwark Local Plan

  • Identifying key viewpoints from which new developments would be assessed

  • Defining the maximum development envelope for the shopping centre redevelopment, derived from the LVMF View 23A.1 kinetic views from Serpentine Bridge towards the Palace of Westminster. This analysis defined the available development space created by the “shadow” of the Palace of Westminster and other heritage buildings in the foreground providing masterplanners and architects with a clear framework for designing new buildings at Elephant & Castle

  • Preparing verified views and planning imagery for development proposals
